Thermo Boost Instructions

Thermo-Boost Instructions for use.

Before use – Before using the Thermo Boost for the first time, always wash the Thermo Boost in a dishwasher or in hot water with detergent.

Use of the Thermo Boost – Place the ThermoBoost in a hot oven at up to 200 C. At 200C oven temperature, the Thermo Boost will heat up to 180 C in approximately 15 minutes. Where the Thermo Boost is placed in an unheated oven, leave the Thermo Boost in the oven until the temperature has been at 200C for at least five minutes. Heat up times need to be increased should the Thermo Boosts be piled up face to face. To use the Thermo Boost simply place the heated Thermo Boost in the Thermo Box immediately prior to loading hot food or meals into the Thermo Box.

Cleaning – The Thermo Boost can be cleaned in the same was as any other plastic kitchen utensil, either in a dish or pot washer or in hot water with detergent or at high tempertaure in an autoclave. Thermo Boosts can also be steam cleaned or pressure washed.

Care of Thermo boxes when using Thermo Boost – Whilst the Thermo Boost can withstand high temperatures, Thermo Boost temperatures of over 150C can damage the Thermo Box. Should the Thermo Boost leave marks in the inside of a Thermo Box reduce the temperature to which it is pre heated

Thermo Boxes grow in popularity

Lightweight Thermo boxes versus heavyweight food transport boxes.

A lot of people have used the traditional plastic skinned food transport boxes from suppliers such as Carlisle, Cambro and Rieber. In many cases these types of products are no longer as popular as they were, with a lot of users having replaced tham with the much lighter expanded polypropylene EPP Thermo boxes. The main reason given for this is that the EPP Thermo boxes are lighter when they are full than the plastic skinned boxes when they are empty and are often more popular with staff because of ease of lifting and handling

Hot and cold food transporting methods

Hot and cold food transporting and holding methods

Regeneration trolleys. These are used for the actual heating of frozen or chilled food up to serving temperature. This re-heating method requires a powerful heating system and therefore a substantial and possibly expensive power supply. Food can be loaded plated, or in bulk and the heating system allows the food to be reheated close to the point of service, the typical reheat time is approximately 1 hour

Like mobile hot cupboards, regeneration trolleys can also be manufactured for hot and cold food transport and regeneration. Trays can be provided which have one half cold for chilled food such as dessert or salad and the other half hot for the hot meal. Regeneration trolleys are widely used in schools, hospitals and other sites where food is prepared in a central production kitchens and transported, either to satellite food preparation areas, or to where it is served.

Mobile Hot Cupboards (e.g. Hospital food trolleys) these are generally a well insulated trolley which may or may not have its own heating system, for holding or regeneration. Food trolleys can use internal heating elements to hold hot food prior to transporting from one place to another and this heating system can use an electrical power supply at the point of use to heat up to recover from heat losses whilst doors are opened and closed during service. Some Hot food insulated trolleys have built in steam generation / humidifiers to prevent skinning of sauces and drying of food. Food transport trolleys can be designed to carry both hot and cold food either in plated meal form or in bulk.

The latest food trolleys and their contents can be heated or cooled at a docking station reducing the need for a dedicated heating and/or cooling system in each trolley.

Illuminated and heated gantries and bain-maries can be incorporated along with aesthetically pleasing finishes up to board room furniture standard.

Insulated Transport Boxes (Thermo boxes or thermal boxes)  Insulated  transport boxes are often used for transporting food for longer distances or where the food will spend a greater time away from a power sources. The Thermo box type of transport box is an extremely light, durable and low cost method of hot or cold food transportation. There are also heavier transport boxes with a plastic skin and some type of foam insulation. The domestic type cool boxes are not well enough constructed and do not insulate well enough for commercial use. Thermo boxes come in a multitude of sizes from boxes for transporting food in single plated meal quantities up to large gastronorm transport boxes for transporting hot, chilled or frozen food in bulk Cooling, Heating and heat boosting systems are available for Thermo boxes,

.

Big users of this regeneration trolley system are hospitals and schools, where food may be prepared in a central production kitchen and transported across a large site.

Thermal Boxes - Transportation boxes are insulated containers which can range from units which hold just a few food boxes to those which are capable of holding gastronorm-size containers and include a plug-in heat facility. It is also possible to get them with a built in cooling capability

The basic construction is normally a thick walled foam moulding, usually of EPP or a double skinned plastic with a high density insulation between the skins. Commercial thermo boxes are far superior in construction and insulation properties. Commercial food transport boxes and thermo boxes are far superior to leisure and domestic cool boxes which should not be used for professional food service.

Cleaning of the boxes is very important, so ensure that the box materials are capable of withstanding high cleaning temperatures and that there are no internal corners where food debris might collect. It is also very useful if the box and lid can be cleaned in a commercial dishwasher.
