Voluntary Meals on Wheels deliveries in the Wirral to be scrapped. The Wirral's Meals on Wheels service has had its 25 year service by the Women's Royal Voluntary Service (WRVS) axed after the charity's service was undercut by a Lancashire-based business. Wirral council announced that the ICare Group had been awarded the contract, leaving the WRVS's volunteers unneeded from June 2008. WRVS says it has launched a legal challenge to the decision and Tory councillors have also demanded the decision be re-examined by a scrutiny committee. David Foulds, territory manager for the WRVS, was said to be angry at the decision saying "We have been informed the decision was called in and believe it is still all to play for."
